26091601 - creation, free knowledge, losing
and so, we begin.
just had my first proper masters-level game studies class today.
i want to reflect on it.
more than that, i want to... create?
i want to make sure that i am leaving the program having made something beautiful that i am proud of.
i also feel a responsibility to my fellow humans to tear down the walls of the academy, so that they may understand what i have come to understand.
i love the idea of philosophytube. to give away their philosophy degree, for free.
learning should be free.
knowledge should be free.
i wish to make a game where one can see all of game studies.
i wish to create a digital gamified library, in which kids are tricked into learning by unlocking the interconnected web of the field of game studies, one article, one paper at a time.
this is not an "educational game". it is education, disguised as a game.
perhaps there will also be games inside it, alongside the texts, that illustrate their points in a digital space.
that would be beneficial.
i think games are defined by loss.
ergodicity does not go far enough. my definition of game requires there to be challenge. there will be users who want to experience the game, but cannot, because of a skill issue.
i do not wish to create a game. games are inherently exclusionary. that is good, but not for this.
i wish to create an educational program that looks like a game.
but there will be no losing.
if i wish to create later, i must first make sure i document now.
this does not come easily to me. i prefer creating now. hours of creating will save us minutes of documenting.
but i must focus on my classes, and my teaching, and learning how to teach.
so the creating must come later.
to zotero.
